Pune: Police Commissioner Warns Traffic Police Against Bribery and Extortion

Pune: Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued a stern warning to traffic police officers who harass traffic violators by intercepting them for bribes. Any officer caught extorting money from citizens will face extortion charges.

Traffic congestion has become a severe issue in the city, with the traffic police often criticised for prioritising fines over managing traffic flow. Reports of officers demanding money from drivers and imposing fines have surfaced, with videos going viral on social media.

To combat this malpractice, Kumar has deployed undercover officers to monitor the behavior of traffic police. These plainclothes officers will observe whether traffic police are demanding bribes and will take immediate action if extortion is found. Kumar emphasised that a case of extortion will be registered against any officer involved in such activities.
