Pune: Police Commissioner Takes Stern Action Against Organised Crime Gang In Pune; Apprehended Sunny Jadhav And 2 Others

Pune Police MCOCA Action

Pune: In a decisive move against organised crime in the city, Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Sunny Jadhav and his two accomplices, who were involved in a series of violent incidents, including a machete attack in the Balajinagar area of Pune. Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has taken action against 82 such gangs since assuming office.

The incident in question occurred on October 25 at K. K. Market in Balajinagar, where the accused individuals allegedly spread terror by waving kites in the air and claiming dominance over the area. When one person went to settle a quarrel, he was seriously injured by Sunny Jadhav and his accomplices in a violent altercation, leading to the registration of a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Arms Act, the Maharashtra Police Act, and the Criminal Law Amendment Act against accused at Sahakarnagar Police Station.

Following a thorough investigation, the police arrested Salman alias Salya Hameed Sheikh and Vaibhav alias Bablu alias Manoj Vivek Kothari. However, the gang leader, Sunny Shankar Jadhav, remained at large.

The accused and their accomplices are alleged to have formed an organised crime gang with the intention of spreading terror in the Dhankawadi area. The crimes attributed to them include attempted murder, robbery, grievous hurt, assault, possession of dangerous weapons, and violation of police orders within the jurisdictions of Sahakarnagar and Bibwewadi police stations.

Senior Police Inspector Surendra Malale, through Circle-2 Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartana Patil, proposed the inclusion of Sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2), and 3(4) of the MCOCA in the case registered at Sahakarnagar Police Station. Additional Commissioner of Police Western Regional Division Pravin Kumar Patil approved this inclusion after scrutinising the application. The ongoing investigation is being led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Narayan Shirgaonkar from the Swargate Division.

The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Ritesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik, Additional Commissioner of Police Western Regional Division Pravin Kumar Patil, Circle-2 Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartana Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Police Narayan Shirgaonkar, Senior Police Inspector Surendra Malale, and the dedicated team comprising Police Inspector Crime Sandeep Deshmane and officers Sanjay Gaikwad, Mangesh Khedkar, Pooja Tidke, and Bhausaheb Aher.
