Pune: Police Commissioner Cracks Down on Organised Crime: Avinash Gample and Accomplices Booked Under MCOCA

Pune: In a significant move against organized crime, Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has taken decisive action under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against Avinash alias Avya Suresh Gample and his three associates. The accused are charged with assaulting and robbing a young man and his friend, using iron weapons and wooden bamboo, and forcibly taking Rs. 700 from the victim’s pocket.

Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has been relentless in addressing organised crime, having booked 103 criminal gangs under the MCOCA Act to date. The latest case involves Avinash Suresh Gample alias Avya (19 years old, resident of Warje Malwadi), Satish Pawan Rathod alias Satyapal (18 years old, resident of Warje Malwadi), Vishal Sanjay Sonkar (19 years old, resident of Shivane), and a minor, all of whom have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Warje Malwadi Police Station, including IPC 394, 323, 341, 504, 506(2), and 34, along with charges under the Arms Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and Criminal Law Amendment Act. While three have been arrested, the minor has been detained.

Following the incident, a proposal has been submitted to the Additional Commissioner of Police, Western Regional Division, Pravin Kumar Patil, to include Section 3 (1)(ii), 3(2), and 3(4) of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999, in the case. After careful scrutiny, the Additional Commissioner of Police approved the inclusion of the offence under MCOCA. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kothrud Division, Bhimrao Tele.

This crackdown on organised crime is a result of the coordinated efforts of Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Additional Charge) Ramnath Pokle, Additional Commissioner of Police Crime Pravin Kumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police Suhail Sharma, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kothrud Division Bhimrao Tele, Senior Police Inspector Sunil Jaitapurkar, Police Inspector Crime Ajay Kulkarni, Assistant Police Inspector Amol Olekar, and various members of the Vigilance Team and Police Enforcement Officers, including Sambhaji Darade, Vijay Khilari, Nitin Karturde, Dnyaneshwar Gujar, and Ramdas Gonate.
