Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar Issues Strict Warning to Pubs Over Late Operating Hours

Pune’s recently appointed Police Commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, issued a stern warning to pubs in the city, cautioning them against operating beyond the prescribed deadline of 1:30 am. The announcement comes in response to multiple complaints from residents in areas like Koregaon Park and Viman Nagar regarding pubs violating the designated closing time.

Kumar emphasized the strict measures that will be implemented against establishments involved, directly or indirectly, in unlawful practices. “Pubs in the city will be completely shut down after midnight (1:30 am), and anyone not adhering to the prescribed norms will have to face stringent action,” warned Commissioner Kumar during a press briefing.

In addition to addressing pub operating hours, Kumar hinted at an upcoming reshuffle within the Pune city police department. The proposed reshuffle aims to transfer police personnel, specifically constables with over five years at a police station, and relocate at least 77 police sub-inspectors and assistant police inspectors.

Addressing concerns related to traffic violations, Kumar highlighted an upcoming meeting at the commissioner’s office on Tuesday. He affirmed the Pune police’s commitment to enhancing vigilance and patrolling in areas frequented by women. The commissioner stressed the importance of personnel changes within the force, urging police to stay away from land settlement issues. Kumar warned of strict action against those found involved in such cases and emphasized accountability for officers overseeing history sheeters.

To streamline the handling of complaints against police personnel, meetings will be held in each zone, where Kumar will personally address grievances. The commissioner underscored the importance of understanding the challenges faced by police personnel for effective policing.

In the ongoing battle against cybercrime, the Pune police will increase staff at cyber police stations, considering outsourcing to acquire necessary expertise. Kumar clarified that these measures are not short-term solutions but require time for effective implementation.

Expressing confidence in these steps contributing significantly to enhancing public safety, Kumar urged citizens to actively participate in maintaining the city’s security. The focus on curbing illegal activities, increasing transparency within the police force, and leveraging technology to combat cybercrime reflects the Pune police’s commitment to creating a safer environment for Punekars.
