Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has witnessed a surge in revenue from the bus routes extended from Katraj depot over the past year. Simultaneously, passengers have experienced enhanced comfort during their journeys thanks to these expanded routes.

Five bus routes have been extended from Katraj depot in the last year, namely Dhankawadi to Shivajinagar, Padmavati to Pune Station, Rajas Society to Shivajinagar, Bharti University to Shaniwarwada (Circle), and Taljai Pathar to Pune Station. Additionally, a total of seven routes, including both extended and newly launched ones from Katraj, have received an enthusiastic response from passengers. PMPML has reported revenue generation on all routes, except for Taljai Plateau to Pune Station, in the form of average revenue per kilometer.

One of the key advantages of these extended bus routes is that they eliminate the need for passengers to change buses during their journey, as they cover long distances. Furthermore, PMPML has introduced daily and monthly pass services on these routes for the convenience of daily commuters. Consequently, a positive and contented atmosphere prevails among passengers.

“Initially, these routes were of short distance. However, responding to passenger demand, we thoughtfully expanded these routes. This has proven beneficial for both passengers and PMPML. With all routes, except one, generating revenue above the average, we aim to further expand and improve the services in the future. Our intention is to provide the best service possible,” expressed Govind Hande, Agarpramukh of Katraj.

Hemant Dhaybar, President of Rajas Society, shared his satisfaction with the extension of the bus route from Rajas Society to Shivajinagar. Previously, passengers had to disembark at Swargate and then continue their journey to Shivajinagar. However, with the route extension, passengers can now travel directly to Shivajinagar if they have business at Swargate. Students, women, and senior citizens residing in the surrounding area are among those taking advantage of this convenient service.

The success of these expanded bus routes demonstrates the PMPML’s commitment to meeting passenger needs and enhancing their commuting experience. The revenue generated from these routes will contribute to the further development and improvement of public transportation services in Pune.
