Pune: PMC’s Health Department invites proposals for construction of multispeciality hospital at Kausarbaug in Mohammadwadi

Hospitals In Pune

PUNE: A 75 to 100 bed multispeciality hospital will be built on the (DBFOT) basis at Kausarbaug in Mohammadwadi on behalf of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on a plot which has been reserved for a hospital. The PMC will make available the land and a private party will construct the hospital and operate it. The PMC’s Health Department has invited proposals for this project.

There is reservation of hospital on 16 guntha land at Kausarbaug. The PMC does not have a hospital which will cater to patients suffering from different ailments. Against this background, the PMC has decided to set up a multispeciality hospital on DBFOT basis. Against the background of expenditure of construction, equipment and recruitment of experienced medical staff, the PMC has decided to set up this hospital on DBFOT basis. The private organisation will be allowed to operate the hospital for 30 years.

A 75 to 100 bed hospital will be set up in the area. The PMC expects that 10 per cent beds should be reserved for patients referred by it and 10 pc beds for CGHS patients. An organisation which fulfils terms and conditions of the PMC regarding offering concessions, will be asked to operate the hospital, said Assistant Health Officer Dr Sanjeev Wavre.

Warje hospital project yet to make headway

The PMC has given its sanction for setting up of 350 bed multispeciality hospital in Warje on DBFOT basis. However, two years have passed since the process has started. An expenditure of ₹360 crore is expected on the construction of the hospital. The concerned organisation is going to take a loan from an international bank.

The PMC will be the guarantor for the loan. This is probably for the first time that the PMC will be the guarantor for a loan taken by a contractor. There are murmurs of political pressure and social organisations and some former corporators have raised their voice against this. However, despite PMC’s support, the organisation has been unsuccessful in getting a loan and getting it insured.

Against this background, a proposal of building a hospital at Kausarbaug has been floated. What is to be noted is that the PMC has refused to provide any financial aid at least in the initial stage for this project.
