Pune: Pedestrian foot over-bridge to be built at Chandni Chowk to allow crossing of road

Chandni Chowk Flyover

PUNE: A four kilometre long pedestrian walkway has been proposed at Chandni Chowk as pedestrians are facing problems while crossing the road even after the flyover has been built. Along with the pedestrian way, a foot over-bridge is also going to be built and the PMC has prepared a plan. A decision will be taken during a meeting between the PMC and NHAI.

The NHAI has constructed a flyover at Chandni Chowk to reduce traffic congestion. The flyover was inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari last month. However, pedestrians are facing severe hardships while crossing the road. Hence, the civic administration has prepared the proposal.

The PMC has prepared the plan after carrying out a study regarding improvements which should be carried out. It is expected that the PMC will have to spend ₹15 crore on building pedestrian walkway and NHAI will have to spend ₹10 crore for constructing the foot over-bridge.

The plan prepared by the civic administration includes building pedestrian walkway on the road at Chandni Chowk, constructing a foot over-bridge to cross the highway, staircase for the bridge, building a foot over-bridge parallel to the highway from Bavdhan to Kothrud and a facility for crossing the road near Ved Bhavan. A joint meeting is going to be held between PMC and NHAI to discuss the plan. The civic body is ready to contribute its share of the expenditure.
