Pune: Part of pillar of Sinhagad Road flyover to be demolished

PUNE: The PMC has checked the quality of the construction of the flyover being built on the Sinhgad Road. It has come to the notice that of 10 pillars, the quality of a part of a pillar is below the expected standard.

The PMC has undertaken the construction of a flyover between Rajaram Bridge and FunTime theatre to reduce the traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road. The work on the flyover started on September 21, 2021 and it is expected to be ready by December 2025.

The construction of the flyover is going on at a fast pace. Till now, the pillar work of Goelganga Chowk to Santosh Hall has been completed and the work of installing girders is underway. The pillar work from Santosh Hall to Vitthalwadi Chowk has been completed. The work of installing pillars from Vitthalwadi Chowk to Rajaram Bridge is going on. Nearly 50 per cent work of the flyover has been completed and there is a possibility that the flyover may be opened by December 2024.

Meanwhile, the quality of the flyover is repeatedly checked by the PMC. It carried out a quality check through a third party. It found that of 10 places, the quality of the pillar at Santosh Hall was M 30 when it should be M 35. Hence, a one metre part of the pillar will be demolished and constructed again, the civic administration said.
