Pune: Panshet dam filled to 100 per cent of its capacity

PUNE: Since the intensity of the rainfall has reduced in the Panshet and Varasgaon dams in the last three days, the storage in the Khadakwasla reservoir system has reduced. Till 5 pm on Saturday, the storage was 26.37 TMC (90.47 per cent). The Panshet dam is nearly full. Compared to last year, the storage in the system is less than 1.5 TMC. Last year, on August 12, the storage in the system was 27.77 TMC (96.03 per cent).

The intensity of the rainfall has reduced in last three days. The rainfall has also significantly reduced in Dapsare, Tav Dasve and Shirkoli areas which are adjoining Raigad district. Hence, the increase in the storage in the system has reduced. From 6 am to 5 pm on Saturday, there was 10 mm rain at Temghar and 3 mm rain at Varasgaon and Panshet. There was no rainfall in the Khadakwasla dam area. The rain has taken a break in Khadakwasla and Sinhagad area.

The Panshet (Tanaji Sagar) dam is nearly full. Local residents worshipped water. Main activists and senior citizens who were affected when the dam had burst many years ago, spoke about old memories. The traditional worship of water was carried out by Pune District Milk Union President Bhagwan Pasalkar and local engineer Pratiksha Marke.

“The Panshet dam valley has a rich heritage. Farmers gave up their houses and land for construction of the Panshet dam which supplies water to Pune, and performed their national duty. Because of their sacrifice, the development of Pune and nearby areas received a boost. NCP activist Kiran Raut, President of Panshet Division Ankush Pasalkar, branch engineer Anurag Marke, Lalasaheb Pasalkar of Vikas Pratishthan, Shantaram Thakar, Balasaheb Kondekar were present.
