Pune: Now, prompt RTO services at your doorstep

Pune RTO

Pune: The days of delays in getting the driving licence or Registration Certificate (RC) of your vehicles are over. There have been several complaints, in the past two years, about delays in getting these documents. Citizens had to make rounds of the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Finally, these vital documents are being issued within a week now.

The driving licence and the RC are sent to the residential address of citizens. Many people were visiting the RTO as they were not getting the documents in time. They would then be directed to the postal department, where they would be told that their documents had been sent back to the RTO. In this entire confusion, it would sometimes take a year to get the documents. Now, citizens are getting the two documents within a week.

Speaking on the issue, RTO Sanjeev Bhor said, “A new contract to print smart cards of the licence and the RC was given on August 21. Earlier, around 76,000 smart cards were pending for prints. Finally, the printing of these smart cards has been done and they have been dispatched through post. Now, the licence and the RC are issued within seven days.”

Vivek Velankar and Raju Ghatole of the Sajag Nagrik Manch had written to the Maharashtra State Commission for Right to Services in this regard. They had complained that the RTO was not rendering the public services in time under the Maharashtra Right to Public Service Act, 2015. Acting on the complaint, Commission Deputy Secretary Anuradha Khanvilkar had sought a report from the RTO whether they were providing the public services within time. The RTO report had stated technical issues in printing smart cards as the reason. However, a solution has now been found.

The driving licence and the Registration Certificate are sent directly on the residential address of the applicant by post. If undelivered due to a mistake in the address or absence of the applicant, the documents are returned to the RTO. Only 5 per cent of documents are returned. We are trying to further reduce this number.
