Pune Municipal Corporation Invests Rs 3 Crore in Revamping City Sports Complexes

Pune Municipal Corporation

In a commendable move to enhance the sporting facilities at 14 different complexes throughout Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a comprehensive repair project with a budget of three crore rupees. This undertaking encompasses the refurbishment of 12 swimming pools, addressing issues such as motor stalling, leaks, and tile damages.

The PMC, responsible for the construction of 37 swimming pools across the city, has effectively maintained 31 of them in operational condition. However, six of these swimming pools necessitate major repair works, leading to their temporary closure. Recognizing the increased footfall of citizens at municipal swimming pools post-Diwali, the administration has proactively chosen to conduct essential minor repairs in advance.

Budget Allocation and Scope of Work

The allocated budget of three crore rupees is expected to cover a wide array of repairs, ensuring that each swimming pool and the badminton hall receives the necessary maintenance within the sanctioned limit of 50 lakhs per facility. Initially, a provision of Rs 2 crore was set aside for the project, but it has been expanded to Rs 3 crore to accommodate unforeseen costs that may arise during the renovation process.

The sports complexes earmarked for repair include:

  1. Shivajinagar Swimming Pool and Gymnasium
  2. Veer Savarkar Swimming Pool Kausarbagh (Kondhwa)
  3. Piraji Koyaji Dangmali Swimming Pool Hadapsar
  4. H.B.P. Bartakke Swimming Pool Warje
