Pune Municipal Corporation Embraces Digital Transformation with ‘e-Office’ Implementation

In a significant move towards modernization, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the shift towards digital operations by adopting the ‘e-office’ system, aligning with the practices of central and state governments. The move aims to streamline daily operations, enhance efficiency, and eliminate the challenges associated with traditional paperwork.

Digital Transition for Operational Efficiency

Rahul Jagtap, System Manager at the IT Department, PMC, highlighted the decision to take all daily operations of the PMC into the digital realm. Traditionally, administrative tasks involved the creation of physical files for approval processes, leading to delays and potential issues like document damage or loss. The introduction of the ‘e-office’ system is set to address these challenges by facilitating a seamless transition to digital processes.

Jagtap emphasized that the ‘e-office’ system is not exclusive to the PMC but is also being implemented in various state and central government offices. Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), this system holds the potential for universal application, contributing to a standardized and efficient approach across different government bodies.

Current Progress and Future Implementation

As of now, the PMC has been utilizing the ‘e-office’ system for a month, with 450 user login IDs already created. Sixteen PMC departments have successfully transitioned their file creation, tendering processes, and other functions to the digital platform. The remaining departments are poised to follow suit in the next two months, culminating in a complete shift to online operations for the PMC.

Jagtap acknowledged the time-consuming process of implementing the system across all PMC departments, attributed to the personalized training provided to each officer. Despite the initial investment in training, the PMC administration is on track to achieve 100 percent digitization of operations in the near future.
