Pune Metro’s Extended Services Garner Impressive Revenue of Rs 2.5 Crores in 30 Days

Since the expansion of Pune Metro’s services, the metro system has been witnessing a surge in ridership, particularly during weekends. The convenience of metro travel has caught the attention of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad residents, resulting in record-breaking numbers of commuters choosing this mode of transportation. Over the span of 30 days since its extended services were introduced, the Pune Metro has not only facilitated the travel of more than 12.18 lakh passengers but has also generated an impressive ticket revenue of over Rs 2.5 crore.

Hemant Sonawane, the Public Relations Officer of Pune Metro, highlighted the remarkable growth in ridership and revenue, saying, “As of August 27, 12.18 lakh people have utilized the service. On Independence Day, August 15, the metro witnessed an impressive ridership of 1,23,000 and collected a revenue of 30.63 lakhs.”

The extended services now cover a 9.7-kilometre route from Vanaz to Ruby Hall, replacing the previous route from Vanaz to Garware station. Additionally, the 13.9-km stretch from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to the civil court has also commenced operations, replacing the road route from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Phugewadi.

Weekends have notably emerged as peak periods for Pune Metro ridership, with the following statistics recorded:

  • August 5 (Saturday) witnessed a ridership of 57,769, generating a revenue of Rs 9.54 lakh.
  • August 6 (Sunday) recorded a ridership of 96,569, with a revenue collection of 16.43 lakhs.
  • August 12 (Saturday) saw a ridership of 62,044, generating revenue of 10.65 lakhs.
  • August 13 (Sunday) experienced a ridership of 92,389, with a revenue collection of 17.20 lakhs.
  • August 15 (Independence Day) set a new record with a ridership of 1,23,720, resulting in a revenue collection of 30.63 lakhs.
  • August 19 (Saturday) reported a ridership of 55,297 and a revenue collection of 9.21 lakhs.
  • August 20 (Sunday) saw a ridership of 76,852 and a revenue collection of 13.16 lakhs.
  • August 26 (Saturday) recorded a ridership of 53,833 and a revenue collection of 8.96 lakhs.
  • August 27 (Sunday) marked a ridership of 80,682 and a revenue collection of 13.75 lakhs.

These numbers reflect the growing popularity and success of Pune Metro’s extended services, reaffirming its role as a convenient and efficient mode of transportation for the city’s residents.
