Pune Metro Witnesses Surge in Ridership as Over 17,000 Commuters Avail 30% Fare Concession

Pune, Aug 07, 2023: The Pune metro’s recently extended routes have experienced a notable increase in ridership, with more than 17,000 commuters taking advantage of a 30% fare concession over the weekend.

Within a span of just six days since its launch, the metro’s overall ridership has already crossed the impressive range of 60,000 to 70,000 passengers. Notably, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) station emerged as the leader in ridership, catering to a substantial count of 16,238 passengers. This strong response has set the stage for continued growth in the metro’s ridership figures in the days ahead.

The extended metro stretches, connecting Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic and Phugewadi to Civil Court, have drawn a significant number of passengers, contributing to the overall surge in ridership, as stated by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro). The 30% fare concession, introduced after being flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1, has played a pivotal role in stimulating this increase in ridership. Notably, the Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic stretch has seen particularly positive feedback and response.

Hemant Sonawane, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Maha-Metro, expressed his satisfaction with the enthusiastic response from commuters. He anticipates that the ridership figures will soon surpass the significant milestone of one lakh passengers. Sonawane attributes the heightened weekend ridership to the attractive 30% fare concession and also credits the growth in ridership to the feeder bus service provided by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). With ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing services, the Pune metro is expected to continue its upward trajectory of growth and success.
