Pune Metro Witnesses Over 1 Million Riders on Newly Extended Routes

Pune, August 21st, 2023: The Pune Metro system has garnered an impressive response from commuters following the inauguration of two extended routes that now seamlessly connect Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. As per official reports, an impressive total of 983,516 passengers have availed themselves of these two routes since their commencement on August 1.

A noteworthy milestone was reached on August 1 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the extended routes of the Pune Metro, now spanning from Phugewadi to Civil Court Metro Station, as well as from Ruby Hall Clinic to Garware College Metro Station via Civil Court. The recent introduction of a feeder service for PMPML Buses and Auto Rickshaws has further contributed to the increase in ridership, effectively extending the reach of the Metro network within the city.

In response to demand from students and working professionals, Metro officials have made a significant adjustment to their operations. Trains now commence service at 6 am instead of the previous 7 am start time. In addition to this, students can avail a 30% concession on their monthly passes, while other passengers enjoy a 30% reduction in ticket fares during weekends—Saturday and Sunday.

The introduction of the “Pune One Card,” a versatile travel pass that integrates multiple modes of transportation, has also garnered positive attention. Since its launch on August 12, approximately 6,000 individuals have already purchased the card, underscoring the public’s enthusiasm for simplified and convenient travel solutions.

The augmented ridership numbers underscore not only the expanding connectivity of the Pune Metro but also the vital role it plays in the daily lives of the city’s residents. The Metro’s ability to adapt to the needs of its diverse ridership—students, professionals, and the general public—is a testament to its commitment to fostering convenient, efficient, and inclusive urban transportation.

As Pune’s Metro system continues to evolve and expand its reach, these numbers stand as a clear indication of its growing importance in shaping the city’s transportation landscape. With initiatives that cater to various demographic needs and a commitment to enhancing overall commuter experience, the Pune Metro is undoubtedly on track to redefine the way residents navigate the urban environment.
