Pune Metro Line 3 Sets Rapid Pace: 4000 Segments Cast in 14 Months


The Pune Metro Line 3 project, a vital link connecting Hinjewadi’s IT hub to Shivajinagar’s bustling business district, has achieved a momentous milestone. In a testament to the project’s relentless progress, the casting of the 4000th segment for the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro line was successfully accomplished today. What sets this achievement apart is the astonishing pace at which it was reached, with an additional 1000 segments completed in just 69 days following the 3000th milestone. This remarkable feat underscores the dedication and efficiency of the Pune Metro Line 3 development, also known as ‘Puneri Metro.’

The journey of Pune Metro Line 3 on the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route is under the stewardship of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. The Tata Group, under the banner of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, has spearheaded the implementation of this project as a special purpose company (SPC).

Alok Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, stated, “The developers are tirelessly working at full capacity to ensure that the project is completed within the scheduled timeframe, a remarkable achievement given the completion of 4000 segments in just 400 days (14 months). Notably, segments constituting 80% of the total piers have been erected within the first year of commencing work, showcasing the remarkable progress achieved in this endeavor.”

Segment Casting Overview at Pune Metro Line 3:

  • 0 to 1000: 285 Days
  • 1001 to 2000: 90 Days
  • 2001 to 3000: 79 Days
  • 3001 to 4000: 69 Days

About Pune Metro Line 3:

Pune Metro Line III is an approximately 23 Km elevated Metro rail project that bridges the IT hub of Hinjawadi with the central business district of Shivajinagar. This Public Private Partnership (PPP) project, awarded by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), is undertaken by a consortium comprising Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH. The project will be developed and operated on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate & Transfer (DBFOT) basis by a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), for a concession period of 35 years, including the construction period.
