Pune Metro Expansion Gains Momentum: Dairy Farm Land Auctioned for Project Funding

PMRDA Begins Auction of Government’s Dairy Farm Land for Pune Metro Project Funding

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated the auction process for the state government’s eight-acre dairy farm land located near the Old Pune-Mumbai highway. This move aims to raise funds for the Pune Metro project, which spans from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, according to reports by the Hindustan Times.

In 2019, the PMRDA received three pieces of government-owned land in Pune city from the state cabinet for the purpose of funding the proposed metro rail project. These land parcels were initially designated for various government functions, including a polytechnic institution, dairy development, and the police department.

Ramdas Jagtap, Deputy Collector at PMRDA, stated that the e-auction process for the dairy development land has commenced, and they anticipate generating over Rs 500 crore from this auction. The funds raised through this process will contribute to the financing of the metro project, and the land will be allocated to the Tata-Siemens joint venture responsible for developing the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro line.

In addition to the dairy farm land, the PMRDA also plans to auction Pune Rural Police department land as part of the funding strategy.

The state government provided a total of 53.94 acres of land in response to PMRDA’s request. This land allocation includes 26 acres from the government polytechnic on Ganeshkhind Road, 17.64 acres from the dairy development department in Shivajinagar, and 10.3 acres from Pune Rural Police and the wireless department.

The estimated cost of the entire metro route from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar is Rs 8,312 crore. The PMRDA is actively working on Metro Line 3, covering a distance of 23.2 kilometers from Mann village through Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar. As of now, the project is 40% complete and recently underwent a review by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who emphasized the need for expeditious completion.

Furthermore, as part of the Metro Line 3 project, the PMRDA is constructing a double-decker flyover on Ganeshkhind Road, scheduled to be finished by November 2024. This project is a significant step forward in enhancing public transportation infrastructure in Pune.
