Pune, 11th July 2023: The construction work on the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar route of the Pune Metro, which had come to a halt last month, is set to recommence in the near future.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has successfully resolved the obstacle that had been impeding the progress of the Pune Metro project. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Vijay Kumar Magar, has granted permission for the barricading on Ganeshkhind road. With this approval, PMRDA will now proceed with the necessary repairs at Agriculture College Chowk and resume the Metro work within the next two to three days.
PMRDA had previously sought permission from the traffic police to erect barricades at Agriculture College Chowk for the Metro construction. However, due to the hosting of two G-20 working group meetings in Pune and the Palkhi ceremony procession in June, barricading for the Metro project was prohibited. As a result, the Metro work was halted on Ganeshkhind road. Now, with the traffic police granting permission, the project can proceed without any further delay.
During his inspection of the Metro construction site on Ganeshkhind road, DCP Magar suggested that a three-meter stretch of the road remain open at Agriculture College Chowk to allow traffic to pass through. He also advised PMRDA officials to level the road chamber and carry out necessary repairs while ensuring minimal disruptions to traffic flow.
Sources indicate that the Metro work will resume within the next two to three days, once the repairs are completed and necessary arrangements are in place.
The Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro line spans a distance of 23 km, with a double-decker flyover planned between Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk and E-Square along the route. This 1.7 km bridge will be a crucial component of the Metro system. Due to the barricading restrictions imposed in June, the Metro work has experienced a slight delay, which may impact the project’s overall completion timeline by approximately 10 to 15 days. Nonetheless, the clearance of the traffic obstruction marks a significant step forward in the ongoing development of the Pune Metro, bringing relief to commuters and facilitating smoother transportation in the city.
