Pune: Maximum limit on paying electricity bills in cash from August 1; MSEDCL appeals to consumers to pay bills in online mode

PUNE: As per the orders issued by Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), there would be a maximum limit on paying electricity bills in cash from August 1, 2023 and MSEDCL has appealed to consumers to pay electricity bills in the online mode which is safe and convenient.

From August 1, 2023, there would be a limit on the maximum amount of the electricity bill which can be paid in cash as per the orders issued by MERC on March 31, 2023.

All consumers of MSEDCL (except low power agriculture category) will be able to pay only ₹5,000 as their electricity bill in cash. For low power agriculture category, the maximum limit would be ₹10,000 for paying electricity bill in cash.

MSEDCL’s customers can pay their bills by visiting www.mahadiscom.in or through the mobile app of MSEDCL without any limit on the amount. This system is available on MSEDCL’s website. Customers can pay their bills by using credit/debit cards, netbanking or UPI. They can also pay their bills through Bharat Bill Payment. Besides this, MSEDCL has made available the facility of paying bills of more than ₹5,000 for all low power consumers through RTGS/NEFT.

All necessary information is made available on electricity bills.
Payment of electricity bills by all modes is free except credit cards. A concession of 0.25 per cent (maximum ₹500) is offered if the bill is paid in the online mode.

It is very safe to pay electricity bills in the online mode and conditions and terms of Reserve Bank’s Payment and Settlement Act, 2007 have been made applicable. At present, 1.10 crore customers (65 per cent) of MSEDCL are taking the benefit of the online facility and the power utility gets a monthly revenue of ₹2,250 crore.

If the bill is paid in the online mode, the customers immediately gets an SMS on the registered mobile number. If payment history is checked on www.mahadiscom.in, details about the payment and the receipt is available. Online bill payment is very safe and if there are complaints or doubts, customers can send email to [email protected]. MSEDCL has appealed to customers to take advantage of paying electricity bills in the online mode to save time instead of standing in queues.
