Pune: Man held for stealing ornaments from Chamundabhavani Mata temple

Pune : An unidentified person had entered a temple by breaking the lock and decamped with the ornaments of the Goddess with his accomplice, after praying. The Bharati Vidyapeeth police were successful in arresting the culprits during the Navratra festival. The accused has been identified as Sunil Anna Kamble (36), a resident of Warje.

More than 50 cases of house break-ins and double murder are registered against the accused. He has been in jail since 2018 and was released on bail in March 2023. According to the police, there is a Chamundabhavani Mata temple near the turn at Bhilarewadi in the Katraj Ghat. A robbery had taken place in the temple and ornaments worth ₹2.60 lakh had been stolen.

A complaint had been lodged by Roshan Rishiraj Dahal (33), a resident of Bhilarewadi, Katraj at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station. A police team examined the CCTV footage. On the day of the incident, the accused had entered the temple by breaking the lock and had covered his face. He had stolen the ornaments with his accomplice and had disappeared after praying to the Goddess.

Meanwhile, Mahesh Baravkar, Nilesh Dhamdhere and Chetan Gore from the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station checked the CCTV footage and arrested the accused after a technical probe and with the information provided by informants. The accused admitted committing the theft.
