Dr Gauri Lad, retired professor of Deccan College, teacher of courses in Indian studies at TMV, lifetime member of Bhandarkar Institute and former member of the executive board and guide of many PhD students, passed away in Mumbai today. She was 79 years old and was a spinster. She was the daughter of senior state government officer Purushottam Mangesh Lad.
Archaeological Evidence of Mahabharat was the PhD subject of Dr Gauri Lad. In 1978, the thesis had been published by Deccan College. She had studied ancient Indian literature, religion, philosophy, Buddhist literature and social, economic and political organisations in ancient India. She had played a great role in the excavation of the Mesolithic civilisation at Bhagimahadi near Nagpur.
