Pune: The level of water in Panshet and Varasgaon dams is increasing due to moderate rain the area. The water storage of Varasgaon dam (Veer Baji Pasalkar) is likely to reach 100 per cent soon. The discharge from the Panshet dam, which is 100 pc full, has been increased. Till 5 pm on Sunday, there was 27.16 TMC storage (93.17 per cent) in the Khadakwasla reservoir system.

At present, a discharge of 2,554 cusecs is going on from Panshet dam. In last two days, monsoon has become active in the area of Panshet and Varasgaon dams adjoining Raigad district. Although it is not raining heavily, the steady rainfall is contributing to the increase in the water level in the dams. The water being discharged from Panshet is flowing into Khadakwasla dam. However, since it is not raining in the catchment area of this dam, the storage of water has slightly reduced.

Engineer Anurag Marke of Panshet dam project said, “Since the storage has increased, 1,954 cusecs of water is being discharged from Panshet into Wanjalwadi sluice gates and 600 cusecs of water through electricity generating sluice gates. Since the dam is full, more water is being released. If rain continues, Varasgaon dam will be 100 per cent full.”

Sub Divisional Engineer of Khadkwasla irrigation circle Mohan Bhadane said, “Due to the rain in catchment areas of Panshet and Varasgaon dams, Puneites are benefitting apart from farmers having lands near Khadakwasla dam.”

There is a storage of 97.97 per cent in Varasgaon (Veer Baji Pasalkar) dam. On Sunday, a worship of the water in a traditional manner was carried out by villagers and officials of the Water Resources Department. Engineer Prateeksha Marke, District Surgeon Dr Madhav Kankavle and Anurag Marke worshipped the water. Lalasaheb Pasalkar, Ganesh More, Chandrakant Pasalkar, Subhash Pasalkar etc were present.
