PUNE: The civic administration has decided to increase the annual income limit of the Shahari Garib Yojana (Urban Poor Scheme) which is a boon for the needy and poor patients. Now, the income limit has been hiked to ₹1.60 lakh The standing committee has approved the proposal and the decision will be implemented after the approval of the GB. The civic administration had decided to make some improvements in the Shahari Garib Vaidyakiya Sahayyata Yojana (Urban Poor Medical Assistance Scheme).
It had been made compulsory to apply in the online mode to keep control over bogus beneficiaries. Later, a plan was made to increase the annual income limit. Earlier, it was necessary for a person to have an annual income of ₹1 lakh or less to avail benefit of the scheme.
Since the scheme was getting a good response and applications were being received from bogus beneficiaries, the civic administration was thinking of increasing the annual income limit. A proposal was tabled to this effect by it. Henceforth, those having an annual income of up to ₹1.60 lakh will be able to benefit from the scheme.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has made a claim that the annual income limit had been hiked on the lines of Mahatma Phule Arogya Yojana. The PMC has given preference to extend the benefits of state government’s Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Arogya Yojana to beneficiaries of this scheme. If a person does not benefit from the state government scheme, then treatment will be provided under Shahari Garib Yojana.
Accordingly, it has been planned to open three centres at the zonal level. Meanwhile, even if the standing committee has given its approval to the proposal of the income limit, the implementation will be done only after the nod from the GB.
