Pune: How many companies left IT Park, Hinjawadi? MIDC, Industries Association differ

Hinjewadi IT Park

Pune: The Hinjawadi Industries Association has claimed that 37 companies left the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjawadi in the past 10 years. There is a political uproar over the issue. Now the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has refuted the association’s claim.

Moreover, the MIDC has sought the list of 37 companies from the association. Meanwhile, a high-level meeting of the State Government machinery is still to be held on the issue.

According to MIDC sources, space is not available for new companies in the Hinjawadi IT Park. Therefore, applications by new firms are being rejected. No company has left the IT hub in the past few years. Some infotech firms have shut down due to financial issues. Some companies had leased out their premises to others. Since they have got office space at cheaper rates, they have shifted to other locations.

The MIDC has rejected the Industries Association’s claim that 37 companies have left the IT Park. The MIDC has written a letter to the association in this regard. It has demanded the list of companies which have left the park. However, the association has refused to furnish the list. The MIDC sources said that they do not have any details of the IT companies leaving the Hinjawadi IT Park.

Infrastructural facilities are not available
The Hinjawadi IT Park started operating 25 years ago. Infrastructural facilities such as roads, water, electricity and solid waste management are falling short now. In all, 139 IT companies are operating in the park, where 2,17,412 employees are working. The IT park was expanded in past some years. However, the basic amenities have not increased. The condition of old infrastructure is pathetic. The road in the park are narrow and in a poor state. Traffic jams have become a daily affair here.
