Pune: Honey bees attack 12/13 tourists at Rajgad fort

PUNE / VELHE: Honey bees attacked tourists who had come for sightseeing at Rajgad fort. An employee of the Archaeological Department, Bapu Sable, said that two men and two women had become unconscious and 12/13 had been injured. The names of the injured tourists are not known.

The incident took place at 8.30 am to 9 am on Sunday (October 8) and the honey bees may have attacked the tourists because of the perfume they had used.
According to the information available from locals, a group of 16 people including tourists from Dombivali and Pune had come to Rajgad for sightseeing. The group came near Suvela Machi are which has many bee hives.

The bees attacked 12 to 13 tourists who had sprayed perfume on themselves. Two men and two women became unconscious and other tourists received minor injuries. Considering the seriousness of the situation, Sub Divisional Officer of Bhor Rajendra Kachre and Tehsildar Dinesh Parge contacted the police officials and the health department.

As per instructions issued by API Ranjit Pathare of Velhe, Police Constable Akash Patil and Home Guard Vijay Gohine arrived at the spot. An employee of the Archaeological Department, Bapu Sable and Aksh Kachre and local residents have rushed to the spot and started bringing down the tourists on stretchers.

According to instructions of Prant Officer Rajendra Kachre of Khandoba Mal and Tehsildar Dinesh Parge, medical officers and ambulances have arrived at Khandoba Mal and the tourists will be treated after they are brought down.
