PUNE: Manoj Jarange while addressing a public meeting in Rajgurunagar demanded that the state government should hold a special session of the state assembly and pass a law to provide reservation for the Maratha community. He said that 5,000 proofs had been submitted to the government. While Jarange was speaking, a youth came on the stage and tried to create a ruckus. Jarange said that he would have a discussion with the youth after the meeting is over.
“In last 45 days, 14-15 Maratha brothers died by suicide. Earlier also, many people died by suicide to highlight the issue. The Maratha community will take care of their families. I can no longer sit quietly when the Maratha community is suffering and hence, I am seeking blessings of Maratha mothers and sisters,” Jarange Patil said.
“The agitation for Maratha reservation is taking place in a peaceful manner. It is my word that I will ensure that the Maratha community gets reservation through peaceful means and I will not go back on that. I am the son of a farmer and don’t go back on my word,” Jarange Patil said.
“I consider my community as my parents and I will not stab it in the back. We took out a lot of morchas and organised a lot of meetings. But the common man did not understand this issue. We did not get reservation. It is necessary to go to the root of the issue to understand the issue of reservation,” he said.
“An agitation was started to demand the granting of Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community. We have demanded a Kunbi certificate. No one is answering the question whether Kunbi is a sub-caste of the Maratha community. The meaning of Kunbi is agriculture,” said Jarange Patil.
