Pune: The incident in Mundhwa, where a young person tried to save others from a public altercation, takes a sinister turn as he himself was subjected to physical assault and death threats. In this case, a complaint has been registered at the Mundhwa police station, and two of the three accused have been apprehended.
As per the police report, a 21-year-old victim identified as Kaushal Laxman Paighan had gone to the Keshavnagar area of Mundhwa to meet his friend on Sunday, November 5. At that time, he saw a violent altercation between people, in which three people were violently beating a person named Pravin Singh. When Kaushal went to resolve their quarrel, one of the accused, Rahul Dhawre, pushed him to the corner of the road by strangling him.
As the situation escalated, another accused, Sumit Gaud, took out the pistol from his waist and started pummelling Kaushal’s head with the pistol’s butt. Meanwhile, the third accused joined in, kicking and further injuring Kaushal. Shockingly, Sumit Gaud pointed the pistol directly at Kaushal, menacingly threatening to kill him.
In this altercation, Kaushal inflicted many injuries and was subsequently admitted to a nearby local hospital. Promptly, the police took notice of this heinous act and registered a complaint against the accused, identified as Siddharth Shawalkar, Rahul Dhawre, and Sumit Goud, under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 307, 323, 504, 506, and 34. Additionally, charges were filed against accused under the Arms Act, the Maharashtra Police Act, and the Criminal Law Amendment Act.
While the police have successfully apprehended Siddharth Shawalkar and Rahul Dhawre, Sumit Gaud remains at large, adding to the urgency of the ongoing investigation.
