PUNE: There is good news for Puneites who face traffic jams every day because traffic jams will soon be a thing of the past. The road from Bopodi Chowk going towards Shivaji Nagar on the old Mumbai-Pune highway will be opened for traffic from September 1. This information has been provided by the administration.

Due to the Pune Metro work, the road between Bopodi and Khadki station had been closed. The traffic on this road had been suspended for two years due to widening of the road and concretisation. Hence, vehicles going towards Shivaji Nagar had been diverted via Khadki Bazaar.

Vehicles going towards Shivaji Nagar travel via Aarey Chowk to go to their destination. As a result, there was a huge queue of vehicles from Bopodi, Khadki and Aundh Road to Pimpri. Because of the traffic jams, commuters were inconvenienced.

Various political parties and organisations were demanding that the road from Bopodi Chowk to Shivaji Nagar should be opened for traffic since the Pune Metro work had been completed. The people’s representatives, PMC and the traffic police were making efforts that this road should be opened as early as possible.

Meetings were held with the initiative of Addl Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne and DCP (Traffic) Vijaykumar Magar. A joint inspection was carried out last week and a plan was made to open the road from Bopodi Chowk to Shivaji Nagar for traffic. Accordingly, a decision was taken to open the road for traffic, administration officials said.
