Pune: Ghat Areas of the District Witness Highest Rainfall in 24 Hours

Pune, 30th June 2023: Pune and its surrounding regions experienced heavy rainfall on Thursday, with the ghat areas of the district witnessing the highest amount of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The continuous downpours have been part of the consistent rainfall that Pune and the entire state of Maharashtra have been receiving over the past few days.

In the last 24 hours, the Tamhini Ghat area in Pune recorded the highest amount of rainfall, measuring 142 mm. The Dongarwadi area received 130 mm of rainfall, while the Dhanwadi area recorded 113 mm.

According to the Meteorological Department, Lavasa received 89 mm of rainfall during the same period. Nimgiri recorded 57.5 mm, Lonavala 89 mm, Pashan 7 mm, Shivajinagar 5.9 mm, Vadgaonsheri 3.5 mm, Hadapsar 4 mm, and Talegaon 17.5 mm.

With the increased rainfall in the ghat areas, the water storage in the dams has also seen a rise. The weather department predicts that the intensity of rain in Pune city is expected to escalate over the next few hours, with the possibility of moderate to heavy downpours. Residents are advised to exercise caution as road flooding is likely to occur.

In light of the strong gusty winds accompanying the heavy rainfall, the weather department has recommended avoiding visits to the adjacent ghat areas in the coming days. These winds have the potential to uproot trees, posing a risk to individuals. The weather department has issued a warning, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of heavy rainfall.
