Pune: Four women injured after iron pipe structure collapses in Ganesh Peth; FIR registered against four persons

PUNE: Four women were injured when an iron pipe structure put up for fixing lights at Pangul Ali, in Ganesh Peth for Dahi Handi programme, collapsed. The police have registered an FIR against office-bearers of the mandal and four others.

The FIR has been registered against Rahul Chavan, a resident of Ganesh Peth, Ajay Baban Salukhe, Gopi Chandrakant Ghorpade and Chetan alias Suny Samadhan Ahire, a resident of Kharadi.

Ganesh Lalchand Changedia (38), a resident of Nana Peth, has lodged a complaint (162/23) at the Faraskhana police station. The incident had taken place at Pangul Ali in Ganesh Peth opposite Saddi Sadan on Thursday at 10.30 am.

Manda Lalchand Changedia (67), Nirmaladevi Navin Punmia (69), Kevalchand Mangilal Solanki (66) and Tarabai Kevalchand Solanki (64) were seriously injured in the incident.

According to the police, the work of putting up an iron structure for affixing lights for Dahi Handi festival of Shrikrishna Tarun Mandal, was going on. Some women had come to Saddi Sadan.

When the work was going on, a two-wheeler hit one of the poles of the structure and the entire structure collapsed. The four women were seriously injured after being hit by pipes. An FIR was registered because the iron pipe structure was put up endangering people’s lives and without taking any safety precautions which led to the women being seriously injured.
