PUNE: Four Hazmat vehicles have joined the fleet of vehicles of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The vehicles have been developed by Bharat Electronics and were shown the green signal by NDRF’s Director General Atul Karwal on Wednesday.
MD of Bharat Electronics Bhanu Prakash Shrivastav was present.
Speaking during a programme organised at Bharat Electronics at Pashan, Karwal said, “We had requested the Defence Ministry that these sophisticated vehicles should be included in the G20 summit. We did not have a special vehicle to tackle various emergencies and Bharat Electronics has filled this vacuum.”
The NDRF is playing an important role in the organisation of the G-20 conferences and the inclusion of these vehicles is necessary during the summit. This will help in extending cooperation to the Delhi police and the doctors for handling of dangerous biochemicals, Karwal said. The Pune unit of Navratna Defence of Bharat Electronics Limited has designed and manufactured these vehicles. NDRF had issued the tender for chemical biological radiological nuclear vehicles in January 2023.
“It was necessary to supply these vehicles before the G-20 Summit i.e. before August 31. We have met the deadline by designing, manufacturing and supplying the vehicles in a record six months,” said MD of Bharat Electronics Bhanu Prakash Shrivastav.
