Pune Explosion Fallout: Six Policemen Suspended in Wake of Illegal Gas Refilling Tragedy

A catastrophic explosion that rocked Tathawade on the 8th of October has led to the suspension of two officers and four constables due to alleged negligence in the illegal gas refilling incident.

Explosion and Illegal Gas Refilling The explosion, which occurred near the Blossom English School of the JSPM Institute in Tathawade, was the result of an illicit gas refilling operation gone awry. Individuals clandestinely extracted propylene gas from a tanker in an open field, setting the stage for a calamity. The unauthorized operation took a disastrous turn when nine cylinders, connected to the stolen gas, ignited, resulting in a massive explosion that rattled the area.

The aftermath of the explosion left the scene littered with debris, including a total of 27 cylinders and the equipment used to extract gas from the tanker and fill the cylinders.

Swift Response and Suspension Local residents and onlookers rushed to the site in the aftermath of the explosion, and news of the incident quickly garnered widespread attention and concern.

Health Minister Tanaji Sawant, associated with the JSPM Institute, wasted no time and personally visited the site on Monday morning. After evaluating the situation, Minister Sawant directed senior officials to take swift action against those responsible for the disaster.

Following the investigation and Minister Sawant’s directives, Assistant Police Inspector Parvej Shikalgar, Assistant Police Inspector Balaji Thakur, and four other police personnel were suspended from their duties. The suspension orders were issued late on Monday night, underscoring the severity of the situation.
