Pune District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh Commends Citizens’ Response to Special Summary Revision Programme of Electoral Rolls

Pune, June 28, 2023: Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, District Election Officer and Collector, has announced that the special camps organized under the special summary programme of voter lists received an excellent response from citizens. The camps were conducted on June 24 and 25 in various cooperative housing societies across the 21 assembly constituencies of the district.

The Election Commission of India has introduced a special summary programme for the revision of electoral rolls, with the qualifying date set as January 1, 2024. During the camps organized by the district administration, a total of 1,763 applications were received for various actions. Among these applications, 1,048 were for new voter registration (Form No. 6), 93 were for name removal (Form No. 7), and 622 were for corrections in the voter list (Form No. 8).

As part of this programme, polling booth-level officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door visits and verification processes. The objective is to correct errors in the voter list or voter ID card, obtain photographs as per the commission’s standards, rectify blurry photographs, and make necessary corrections in the voter list.

The special summary revision programme aims to register eligible voters who were not registered by January 1, 2023, as well as prospective eligible voters for the January 1, 2024 registration. The programme also includes the removal of multiple entries, deceased voters, permanent migrant voters, and any other corrections needed in the voter list.

Dr. Deshmukh emphasized the importance for citizens to verify whether their names are included in the electoral roll. This ensures that no voter is deprived of their right to vote in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

In cases where a voter’s name appears in multiple places, they are advised to keep one name and submit Form No. 7 to the Voter Registration Officer or the concerned polling station-level officer to remove the names from other locations. Dr. Deshmukh also urged voters whose names have been accidentally omitted to promptly submit Form No. 6 to the office of the concerned voter registration officer, along with the required documents.

The participation and cooperation of citizens in this special summary revision programme are crucial for maintaining accurate and up-to-date electoral rolls, ensuring fair and democratic elections in the future.
