In a bid to enhance voter awareness and streamline the electoral process, Pune District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase has directed the establishment of ‘Know About Your Polling Station’ centers in each ward office within Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. This initiative aims to inform voters about their designated polling stations through various communication channels.
Addressing a meeting of Election Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, and Coordinating Officers responsible for Lok Sabha Election-related tasks at the Collector’s Office, Dr Diwase stressed the importance of leveraging the ‘Smart Saarthi’ system for disseminating information to voters. Additionally, he underscored the need for robust public awareness initiatives at polling stations and ensuring ample manpower in the control room one day prior to polling.
Dr Diwase emphasized that all election-related responsibilities should be executed with utmost seriousness, strictly adhering to the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in collaboration with various authorities. He also mandated the verification of registered voters’ residence at the provided address during the registration process.
Notably, Dr Diwase recently inaugurated a voting awareness rally specifically aimed at transgender individuals. Encouraging active participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he highlighted the significance of citizen involvement in democracy. The district administration’s initiatives to promote voter awareness, including a campaign for voter registration among those not yet registered, were also discussed during the rally. This awareness rally for transgender individuals was recognized as a pioneering initiative in the country.
