Pune: Cyber police arrest man in Mumbai for cheating man of ₹35 lakh

PUNE: The cyber police arrested a man from Mumbai on Thursday for cheating a man of ₹35 lakh by promising him high commission if writes a review on Google as a part of an online task.

The accused has been identified as Tushar Prakash Ajwani (37), a resident of Andheri (W), Mumbai. He sent a WhatsApp message to a complainant about a part time job and told him that money will be deposited in his account if he writes a review about a company on Google.

Accordingly, Tushar and his accomplices deposited a small amount of money in the complainant’s account and won his trust. He was told later to deposit money in bank accounts by sending him a link on Telegram. The complainant deposited ₹34.97 lakh from time to time in the bank accounts but he did not get any returns. After he realised that he had been cheated, he lodged a complaint at the Pune cyber police station.

The cyber police carried out a technical investigation of the bank accounts and they got to know that the accused was a resident of Juhu in Mumbai. Accordingly, a team of the cyber police including PSI Sachin Jadhav, police employee Amar Bansode, Rajkumar Jaba, Navnath Jadhav and Sunil Sonune left for Mumbai.

The team arrested Tushar Ajwani on Thursday. The court has issued an order that the accused should be kept in police custody till September 18. The action was taken under the guidance of CP Ritesh Kumar, Joint CP Sandip Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Srinivas Ghadge, ACP RN Raje by a team led by senior PI Meenal Supe-Patil.

The cyber police have appealed to people to be beware of criminal gangs offering online tasks, part time jobs, extra returns and extra commission.
