Pune’s crime branch has made a significant breakthrough in its anti-narcotics campaign. The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Pune Police Crime Branch recently apprehended a skeptic Person in possession of a large quantity of opium. The arrested individual, identified as Rahul Kumar Bhuralalji Sahu, hailing from Rajasthan, was found to be carrying 5 kg 519 grams of opium with an estimated value of Rs 1 crore 10 lakh 38 thousand.
This recent operation is part of the ongoing special drive against drug smugglers in the region. Over the last three days, the police have conducted three major operations and seized opium worth nearly one and a half crores. The arrest and seizure were carried out near the Viman Nagar Police Station in Lohgaon.
The Anti-Narcotics Squad, vigilant in its patrols, received a tip-off about a person with opium near Ajidhan Society, close to the SBI Bank on Porwal Road in Lohgaon. Acting promptly, the police arrested the accused and confiscated the opium. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the airport police station.
Earlier, on July 28, the Anti-Narcotics Squad Two executed another successful operation in Fursungi, resulting in the arrest of Mohanlal Megaram Bishnoi, also from Rajasthan. During this operation, the police seized 3 kilos and 29 grams of opium with a value of approximately Rs. 60 lakh.
Commissioner of Police Ritesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik, and Additional Commissioner of Police Crime Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende, ACP Satish Govekar, PI Sunil Thopte led the efforts in these crucial operations. The diligent work of the officers and personnel of the Anti-Narcotics Squad has resulted in significant gains in the fight against drug trafficking.
