Pune: Commissioner of Police (CP) Retesh Kumaarr has taken action against gangster Junaid Shaikh and his five accomplices under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for damaging 27 vehicles and terrorising people in Yerwada.
Junaid Ejaz Shaikh (23), Avinash alias Sukya Sanjay Shinde (21), Mangesh alias Ghulya Dipak Kalokhe (19), Nikhil alias Bodi Jagannath Shinde (23), all residents of Yerwada, and their one more accomplice have been booked under the MCOCA. Three of them have been arrested while Nikhil Shinde is absconding.
Junaid Shaikh and his accomplices visited Laxmi Nagar in Yerwada on December 26. They were wielding sharp weapons and stones, which they swung in the air and hurled abuses. They shouted at people around, saying: ‘If anyone tries to stop us, we will kill them. They threw stones. They also tried to kill the complainant and his brother. They damaged 27 vehicles and spread terror.
Junaid Shaikh formed a criminal gang and indulged in violence to establish his dominance by terrorising people. It was found that he was involved in house break-in thefts. He mobilised poor, helpless youths and lured them with the promise of money and other things and induced them to commit crimes.
In this regard, Senior PI Balkrishna Kadam attached to the Yerwada Police Station presented a proposal under the MCOCA to Addl CP Ranjan Kumar Sharma through DCP Shashikant Borate. Sharma approved it. ACP Sanjay Patil is investigating the case.
The action was taken by a team comprising Senior PI Balkrishna Kadam, PI Kanchan Jadhav, Jaydeep Gaikwad, API Mahesh Lamkhade, policemen Sachin Mali, Sachin Shinde and Devidas Vandhre.
This is the 111th such action taken by CP Retesh Kumaarr during his tenure.
