Pune : The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Wednesday sent the child in conflict with law (CCL), the 17-year-old son of prominent builder Vishal Agarwal, to an observation home for his alleged involvement in the accident, in which two IT engineers were killed on Sunday.

He was released on bail by a special holiday court considering his minor status. However, taking a stringent stand, the JJB held a hearing and sent him to the observation home. His lawyer argued that he is a minor. On the other hand, the public prosecutor and the police argued that the minor had committed a serious offence, in which two persons were killed. Hence, he should be tried as an adult. The JJB said if the CCL is an adult or a minor would be decided after the police investigation.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar said, “We had moved two applications before the special holiday court, which were rejected. However, we have succeeded on both the counts in the JJB hearing. The CCL’s bail conditions have been changed and he has been sent to the observation home for 14 days. The JJB is considering our application to treat the CCL as an adult. Hearing will be conducted on May 24 again. We will investigate thoroughly and strengthen our case.”

The CCL was driving his father’s Porsche car and hit a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar in the wee hours of Sunday. The bike-borne two IT engineers were killed in the accident. The police had apprehended the minor and produced him before the special holiday court, which granted him bail as he is a minor. The public prosecutor had demanded his police custody. The court had asked him to write an essay on the accident as a punishment. The court also directed the arrest of his father for handing him over the vehicle. The police arrested his father from Chh. Sambhajinagar on Tuesday. He has been sent to judicial custody till May 24 by the sessions court.
