Pune: A woman who was physically and mentally torturing her elderly parents-in-law for money was told to vacate their bungalow within 15 days by the court. JFMC (First Class) C.P. Shelke issued the said order.
The woman had filed a case against her in-laws and husband under the Domestic Violence Act. She had demanded a house and monthly alimony of Rs 1 lakh from them. The court had directed her in-laws to give her a room in the bungalow to stay.
She has been staying in the room. However, the alimony matter is still pending before the court. The woman’s husband has been staying in the USA since January 2022. They do not have an issue. Hence, she and her parents-in-law are staying in the bungalow. The woman is a doctor but does not practise.
The court had directed her with certain conditions in August 2022 to not ill-treat her elderly parents-in-law. However, she continued to torture them. She also demanded money from them. Since her parents-in-law are heart patients, they filed an application before the court through their legal counsel Adv Sagar Bhosale. They requested the court to amend its earlier order of allowing her to stay in their bungalow. During the hearing, the court ordered her to vacate the bungalow as her husband had decided to provide her a rented accommodation.
Rs 25,000 rent granted
While asking the woman to leave her parents-in-law’s bungalow, the court also directed her husband to give her Rs 25,000 monthly rent so that she does not become homeless.
If one’s parents-in-law are senior citizens, then they have a right to live a peaceful life. The court can direct the daughter-in-law to vacate her parent-in-laws house if she ill-treats them. We referred to a high court decision during the hearing of the application. We told the court that the parents-in-law were fed with their daughter-in-law’s torture.
