Pune, India – On Saturday, February 10, 2024, Pune District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase visited the Food Corporation Of India Warehouse at Koregaon Park to review the security of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in preparation for the upcoming general elections.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Joint Commissioner of Police Praveen Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartana Patil, Additional Collector of Maharashtra State Agriculture Corporation Rupali Awale, Deputy District Election Officer Meenal Kalaskar, Deputy Divisional Officer Sanjay Aswale, Pune City Tehsildar Suryakant Yewale, Sneha Kiswe-Devkate, Madhusdan Barge, and other officials.
During the visit, Dr Diwase gathered information about the security measures in place, including CCTV surveillance, electricity arrangements, fire prevention measures, and the maintenance of various registers. The inspection also covered Polling Stations, with specific scrutiny of Sant Gadge Maharaj High School at Koregaon Park and Saint Meera Girls High School at Sadhu Vaswani Chowk under Pune Cantonment Vidhan Sabha constituency.
“Considering the significance of the upcoming general elections, all relevant systems should work in coordination. The Election Commission of India’s standards regarding EVMs should be strictly followed, and these standards should be distributed in Marathi to all concerned parties. Joint training sessions for revenue and police administration regarding EVM security should be conducted,” emphasized Dr Diwase.
Additionally, stringent measures were implemented, including noting every visitor to the warehouse in the register, ensuring necessary facilities for security guards, adjusting the number of security personnel as needed, and implementing all necessary measures for the safety of the warehouse.
The proactive steps taken by Dr Suhas Diwase through this thorough inspection aim to instill a sense of security and trust among the residents of Koregaon Park.
