Pune: Citizens Unite in Protest, Demanding Removal of Controversial Garbage Project in Baner

In a powerful display of unity and frustration, residents of Susroad, Bhande Nagar (Morya Nagar) area in Pune’s Baner have taken to the streets to voice their discontent with the ongoing garbage project initiated by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Their collective demand is crystal clear – they want the removal of the waste project that has been a persistent source of distress in their neighborhood.

The grievances of these residents, which span across age groups, have reached a boiling point due to the unsightly and malodorous presence of the garbage project along a main road. The noxious stench emanating from the site has not only been a significant nuisance but also a health hazard for those living in the vicinity.

Exasperated by the seemingly unending ordeal, these residents have resorted to legal means, taking their concerns to court. They argue that the PMC has conveniently ignored their pleas, while political agendas have seemingly taken precedence over the welfare of the citizens.

One resident, expressing his exasperation, stated, “For seven long years, we’ve grappled with this issue, one that has significantly impacted our health and quality of life. The PMC appears to have turned a blind eye to our genuine concerns.”

The younger generation, including college students, has been particularly affected by the project. Some have reported that waiting at the bus stop has become an unpleasant and unbearable experience due to the overpowering odor. Even playing in the society premises has become a daunting task, overshadowed by the constant stench.

Another concerned citizen passionately asserted, “Our health and daily lives are at stake, and we are appealing to the chief minister to take immediate action to address this dire situation.”
