Pune Cantonment Board Honored with Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence 2023

The Pune Cantonment Board has achieved yet another milestone by receiving the prestigious Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence – 2023. This accolade is in recognition of the board’s exemplary work in the “Improvement in Cantonment General Hospital” category. Notably, this marks the fourth consecutive award in the same field, following accolades in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

According to a press note from DG DE, the Pune Cantonment Board earned the recommendation for the Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence 2023 based on its exceptional performance in enhancing the Cantonment General Hospital.

The Cantonment Board in Pune has demonstrated a commitment to good governance by adopting a dual strategy involving CSR funding and project implementation through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model. This approach was maintained even during financial challenges, resulting in the creation of state-of-the-art health infrastructure and civic amenities in the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Speciality & Critical Care Hospital.

During the period from 2022 to October 2023, the hospital underwent further enhancements through the PPP model, involving motivated private individuals and doctors. Capital-intensive facilities such as a Cath Lab, Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Liquid Oxygen tank, and Modern Pathology Lab were introduced. The Cardiac Care Unit now comprises a Cath Lab, a 6-bed Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and a 10-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The Board’s efforts have resulted in the provision of affordable and accessible Cardio-Vascular health services to Cantonment Citizens, either at rates lower than CGHS Rates or for free under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phole Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY).

The implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadi Kendra is another initiative by the Board to provide cheaper generic medicines. The hospital, empanelled under Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana/Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, offers free dialysis, surgeries, critical care treatment, and cardiac care to patients in the Cantonment area and adjoining municipal/rural areas.

The hospital, which already featured a fully functional Dialysis Unit, 20-bedded ICU, and Modular Operation Theatre Complex, received CSR investments for additional facilities, including laparoscopy units, orthoscopic instruments, ENT microscopes, dental instruments, and uro-surgical instruments.

The Board is currently in the process of developing a state-of-the-art 75-bedded new Maternity Ward building, generously built and donated by the A K Abdujee Trust.

The Pune Cantonment Board expressed gratitude to various stakeholders, including the late MP Hon’ble Shri. Girish Bapat, Hon’ble MLA Shri. Sunil Kamble, Nominated Member Shri. Sachin Mathurawala, donors, and corporate sectors for their unwavering cooperation, financial support, and allocation of grants/funds.

DGDE extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the CEO and the entire team of doctors for their diligent efforts and exceptional performance.
