Pune Cantonment Board Accelerates Connectivity: 20 Mobile Towers to Revolutionize Military Zones

In a bid to tackle persistent issues of inadequate mobile network coverage, the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has announced plans to install twenty cell-on-wheel (CoW) mobile towers. This strategic initiative aims to provide seamless connectivity for residents, army officers, and their families in Pune Camp’s military zones.

Addressing Connectivity Woes: The CoW Tower Initiative

Recognizing the challenges posed by inadequate cellphone networks in military areas, the PCB has secured approval from the Local Military Authority (LMA) of Dakshin Maharashtra and Goa Sub Area to deploy CoW mobile towers. These towers, equipped with batteries, transceiver devices, cellular antennas, and other electronic components, are poised to significantly enhance mobile wireless networks within specific regions of Pune Camp.

Strategic Deployment Locations: Wanowrie, Command Hospital, and Beyond

The installation of CoW towers is set to commence in key locations identified by the LMA, including Wanowrie and Command Hospital, over the next two weeks. The involvement of private parties underscores the collaborative effort to swiftly address connectivity challenges experienced by residents and military personnel.

Operational Oversight by Pune Circle’s Defence Estates Office

To ensure the efficient operation of these CoW towers, Pune Circle’s Defence Estates Office will manage the mobile sites. The project’s collaborative nature, involving private parties, signals a concerted effort to create a sustainable solution for long-term mobile network improvement in Pune Camp.

Historical Challenges: The Need for Periodic Assessment

Acknowledging the historical issue of short-lived improvements after new tower installations, a senior PCB official emphasizes the importance of periodic assessments. Regular evaluations will ensure that the network’s functionality is sustained, addressing the longstanding challenge of inadequate mobile connectivity in Pune Camp.
