Pune Braces for Heavy Rainfall on Visarjan Day as IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Next Two Days

Pune Rains

The grand processions bidding farewell to the Ganesh festival in Pune are expected to encounter heavy rainfall as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the district until September 29. Over 2,000 Ganesh mandals from the city will participate in the processions on the festival’s final day, according to police sources.

IMD Forecast

As per the IMD forecast, the district is likely to witness “heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places” on September 27 and 28. Furthermore, September 29 is predicted to bring “thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) at one or two places.” The municipal corporation and city police are gearing up for the Visarjan day, expecting a significant influx of devotees during the September 28 procession.

Safety Precautions

To ensure safety, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited (MSEDCL) has urged Ganesh mandals to take necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incidents related to electricity during the rainy period. The police have already issued comprehensive guidelines for Ganesh mandals to adhere to during the procession.

Recent Rainfall

The city has experienced substantial rainfall in recent days, with several areas in the district, including Chinchwad and Talegaon, reporting over 50 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Pashan recorded 43 mm of rain, Shivajinagar 37.9 mm, and Koregaon Park received 29 mm of rainfall.
