The “21st Pune Book Fair 2023,” which is Western India’s most extensive book and education exhibition, was officially inaugurated on October 20 by Bharat Sasane, President of Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Sammelan. The fair, taking place at the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, is set to be open until October 22, offering a plethora of literary treasures for book enthusiasts. Notable dignitaries, including Krishna Kumar Patil, Director of Balbharati, Prof. Milind Joshi, and Pune Book Fair Organiser PNR Rajan, graced the inaugural ceremony.
Fostering a Love for Reading
During the opening event, Bharat Saasane emphasized the significance of guiding teachers and parents in selecting books for children and nurturing a love for reading among students. This commitment to promoting literacy and education is at the heart of the Pune Book Fair.
Pune: The City of Readers
Prof. Milind Joshi shared his aspirations for Pune to become renowned as the “City of Readers.” He expressed concern about the declining priority of reading in the fast-paced urban lifestyle and highlighted the importance of revitalizing the reading culture.
Theme: “Towards an Enlightened Society”
PNR Rajan, the fair’s organizer, unveiled the theme of this year’s exhibition as “Towards an Enlightened Society.” Furthermore, a bookstall has been set up for visitors to donate unwanted books, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and stories.

The Pune Book Fair features an array of stalls from prominent publishers, booksellers, and educational institutions. Visitors can explore a diverse collection of books encompassing fields such as Education, Science, Technology, Health, Management, Business, Law, Religion, Politics, and Literature in various Indian languages.

This literary extravaganza is made possible through collaborative efforts with various organizations, including the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad, Directorate of Libraries (State of Maharashtra), Pune Municipal Corporation, Maharashtra University and College Library Association (MUCLA), Akashvani, and the Maharashtra State Education Department. These collaborations ensure a comprehensive and enriching experience for visitors.
