Pune Allocates Rs 333.5 Crore for Ambitious Lonavala Skywalk Project

In a significant boost to the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority’s (PMRDA) ambitious project, the state budget has officially approved Rs 333.56 crore for the Lonavala skywalk. The project, set to be completed by June 2026, aims to transform Kurwande village in Lonavla, covering a total of 15 hectares.

The Lonavala skywalk project encompasses two distinctive sections: a 125-meter-long, 6-meter-wide glass skywalk and a 90-meter-long, 6-meter-wide bridge connecting the iconic Lions and Tiger points. This strategic development is poised to enhance the tourist experience and provide breathtaking views of the scenic landscape.

PMRDA’s proposal, initially met with environmental considerations, is set to clear a total of 20.9 hectares of forest land for the skywalk project between Tiger and Lion points in Lonavala. The forest department is expected to give its approval in less than a week, enabling the project to progress swiftly.

Out of the proposed land allocation, 18.8 hectares will be sourced from the village of Kuravande, while the remaining 2.1 hectares will come from the Maval taluka. Notably, officials have confirmed that the identified land does not host any rare or endangered plant or animal species. The region’s terrain, characterized by hardness and rocks, serves as a natural deterrent to erosion, and it lacks enclosures for animal corridors or wildlife sanctuaries.

This development aligns with PMRDA’s commitment to balancing progress with environmental considerations, ensuring the sustainability and ecological compatibility of the Lonavala skywalk project.
