Pune, known for its cultural vibrancy, has marked its presence in the Guinness World Records with three remarkable achievements during the Pune Book Festival. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the city’s efforts, acknowledging the significant accomplishments that took place last week.
On the sidelines of the ongoing Pune Book Festival, Punekars etched their names in history by setting three Guinness World Records. The first record was for the largest reading activity, where 3066 parents participated, surpassing the previous record held by China. This achievement was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the importance of promoting a reading culture through storytelling.
As part of the Book Festival, the second and third records were set for the longest word and sentence made of books. Titled ‘Bharat’ and ‘Jaitu Bharat,’ these compositions were crafted from an impressive collection of 18,751 books, exceeding the previous record of 11,111 books. The word ‘Bharat’ was created with 7500 books in 22 languages, emphasizing India’s rich multilingualism.
Swapnil Dangorikar from Guinness World Records announced the achievements and presented certificates to the organizers, recognizing Pune’s exceptional contributions to literary and cultural endeavors.
The Pune Book Festival, inaugurated by Deputy Chairperson of Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) Dr Neelam Gorhe and Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Textiles, and Parliamentary Affairs, Maharashtra Chandrakant Patil, has garnered a positive response from Punekars. The festival, organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Book Trust in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, Savitribai Phule Pune University, and the Pune Municipal Corporation, has been highly praised by state authorities.
