Bhupal Patwardhan, Chairman of Executive Board of BORI, said that the handwritten Rigveda is 500 years old and written in the Sharda script.

George Buhler, a scholar, procured it in 1875. It is considered as one of the ancient and handwritten manuscripts of Rigveda. It has been used in carrying out research on Rig Veda. Along with Rigveda, a manuscript of Panini’s Ashtadhyayi, which is kept in the Lalbahadur Shastri University, will be displayed.

Assistant Curator of BORI Dr Amruta Natu and Research Assistant Balkrishna Joshi handed over the script of Rigveda to the organisers of the exhibition in New Delhi. The Director of the National Manuscript Mission, Dr Anirban Dash, accepted the manuscript. After the exhibition concludes, it will be handed over to BORI. England’s Magna Carta, declaration of American Independence and remains of prehistoric man in Africa, can be seen.
