Pune: 19,101 Railway Passengers Fined Over Rs 1.43 Crore for Ticketless Travel in August

In a determined effort to curb ticketless travel, the Pune Railway Division achieved a significant milestone in August 2023 by apprehending a staggering 19,101 individuals attempting to ride the rails without valid tickets. These commuters, now facing substantial fines, collectively owe the railway a whopping sum of Rs 1 crore 43 lakh 56 thousand.

But the crackdown didn’t end there. An additional 9,149 passengers received penalties amounting to Rs 51 lakh 45 thousand for irregular travel without proper tickets. For those trying to sneak their luggage onboard without proper booking, 234 individuals were fined Rs 26 thousand.

This commendable action was carried out under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Indu Dubey. The coordinated efforts of Additional Divisional Railway Manager Brijesh Kumar Singh and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Milind Hirve, led by Divisional Commercial Manager Ramdas Bhise, played a crucial role in achieving this milestone. The initiative involved dedicated ticket inspectors and the vigilant Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The Pune Railway Division remains unwavering in its commitment to conducting regular ticket checks to ensure the fair and lawful use of railway services. Passengers are earnestly urged to comply with the rules and travel with valid tickets.

Failure to do so not only results in financial penalties under the Railway Act but may also lead to legal consequences, including the possibility of imprisonment.

The Pune Railway Division’s resolute efforts in August serve as a reminder to all passengers that ticketless travel is not only unfair to those who pay for their journeys but also carries serious consequences. It is crucial for all rail travelers to uphold the integrity of the railway system by purchasing valid tickets and adhering to the rules and regulations that govern rail travel in India.
