Proposal to Extend Gunthewari Constructions Regularization Deadline in Pune Gains Traction

Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune, 23rd August 2023: In response to a lackluster response regarding the regularization of constructions on Gunthewari land, the construction department has taken a proactive step by submitting a proposal to the municipal commissioner’s office for an extension of the deadline.

The decision on extending the deadline will hinge on the Commissioner’s approval. It is worth noting that several areas within the city have witnessed small-scale constructions on plots measuring half guntha, one guntha, and two gunthas. According to records maintained by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s construction department, approximately 70 thousand such cases exist in the city.

The Maharashtra state government had initially embarked on a journey to regularize constructions on Gunthewari land, a process that was initiated in 2021. However, due to factors such as document completion, associated fees, and intricate regulations, the anticipated enthusiastic response towards the regularization of these constructions has not materialized as expected. A total of 856 applications for Gunthewari regularization were submitted to the PMC. Among these, only 21 cases have been approved, while 547 cases unfortunately faced rejection. Concurrently, 289 cases are currently under review and pending approval.

Simultaneously, the municipal administration had previously extended the deadline for this regularization scheme until July 31st, 2023. However, with the passage of that deadline, various political parties advocated for another extension to facilitate the regularization of Gunthewari constructions. As a result, the application window has been extended for an additional four months, allowing citizens to submit their applications until December 31st. This extension proposal has been presented to the Commissioner’s office for careful consideration and evaluation.
